Why Are We ‘One Cat Farm’?
When we first moved to Wales we had some friends to stay. They asked us if we now lived on a farm? At the time the only animal we had was a cat. The name ‘One Cat Farm’ sort of stuck
.
This is Mogul, a rescue cat from Tufnell Park in London. As big as a medium sized dog, we think he grew so enormous due to his preferred diet of giant London sewer rats, he lived with us for 4 years in London and then retired to the countryside with us in 2013. Mogul was the biggest, softest cat you could ever meet and loved his job as fat cat boss at One Cat Farm. He died peacefully in 2022 of old age and is much missed by us and long term guests who remember him fondly.
Frog-cat is the friendliest and most affection demanding of them all. He thinks that the cabins are his and that guests are coming especially to visit him. He is the cat who gets gifts brought for him and poems and stories written about him. He is accident prone and has been known to fall into the ponds on more than one occasion.
Wilby is shy which is a shame because he is so handsome. You probably won’t meet him as he keeps himself hidden away most of the time. He belongs to our youngest daughter who he dotes on.
The Cats
In 2020, under pressure from the children to get a new pet, we agreed to get a kitten. Long story short, we ended up with 3 sickly little creatures from a local farm. We nursed them and nurtured them and they are now 3 adult pussycats. Sushi, Frog and Wilby.
In 2021, Lyndon was driving along in a storm and found a bedraggled, maggoty abandoned kitten in the hedge. And now we had Carlos.
A year later, Jessie was driving along the main road, turned a corner and almost ran over a little black kitten. The arrival of Peggy Marmite.
If you come to stay then you will be helping to keep this gang fed, healthy and happy. Some of them are more grateful than others.
Sushi-Mabel is the only girl in the gang. She’s tough as nails and a deadly hunter. She is very affectionate but only to a select few humans- you’ll know if you’re one of the chosen ones.
A big cuddly chunk of cat. Carlos is the must grateful and affectionate pussycat you could ever meet. He also has a purr which makes the bed vibrate. He is a total wimp and scared of any unknown humans so you might catch a glimpse of him in the distance.
Peggy Marmite is aloof and looks down upon us with disdain. He started life as girl but after 6 months we discovered he was a boy, which might explain his reasons for basically thinking all humans are idiots. He is the most ungrateful and unaffectionate cat that we have ever met, but we still love him. He is best friends with Carlos.
