We are 5 minutes drive from Aberaeron, in the county of Ceredigion, West Wales.
Find us 3 miles from the Cardigan Bay coastline and the pretty Georgian Harbour town of Aberaeron, known for its candy coloured houses, in the county of Ceredigion. This is a small, rural and unspoilt county in Mid West Wales. Aberaeron which is a 5 minute drive away, provides for most everyday needs with an artisan bakery, delicatessen, a small supermarket, post office and a range of boutique shops and good eateries.
Beaches
The beaches are one of Ceredigion county’s best kept secrets, small sandy coves are hidden on every turn of the coast……Come in winter and you will have them all to yourself. But even in the height of summer, if you don’t mind a walk, you can always find your own private patch- ask us during your stay and we will point you in the right direction. Our closest beach is Aberaeron South, a 5 minute drive away and there are plenty more within a half hour drive.
Ceredigion Coast Path runs the length of the county so you can explore all 60 miles of it during your stay or try out a smaller more manageable chunk. We have walked the whole path and canoed a lot of it so are well placed to give directions and advice.
Cardigan bay is one of only two places in the UK with a semi permanent bottlenose dolphin population. You can take a boat tour to see them, or just hang out on a beach or explore the coast path and wait for them to swim by. These are some of our favourite beaches, all within a half hour drive from the cabins.
- Mwnt – Completely hidden until you almost fall off the cliffs down to it. Famous for the iconic whitewashed chapel which stands on top of the hill close by. Climb up the hill for spectacular views up and down Cardigan Bay.
- Aberporth – Two deep sand beaches with a picturesque village overlooking them both.
- Tresaith – A small beach with a waterfall at one end and a pub right on the beach.
- Penbryn – Accessed from a National Trust car park, walk down through the trees to discover a mile of pristine white sand. Even on a hot summer’s day you can have this beach virtually to yourself. One of the scenes from James Bond, Die Another Day was filmed here.
- Llangrannog – A pretty little village with two good pubs and a homemade ice cream shop practically on the beach- we think its the best ice cream in the county. When the tide is out you can walk round to the right of the beach to discover a further ‘hidden’ sandy beach and spend the day there. Just watch out for the tide coming in or you might get stuck and have to climb the steep steps up the cliff to get back to the village.
- New Quay– A busy picturesque village, the setting for Dylan Thomas ‘Under Milk Wood’. There are two beaches here, and this is the place to go for dolphin spotting boat trips. Also the home of Cardigan Bay Watersports if you fancy learning a new skill, or keeping the kids busy for a day or two. They offer lessons in sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, paddle boarding and more and are really nice, friendly people to deal with.
- Cwmtydu – A tiny pebbly beach, formerly a smugglers cove, now famous for its breeding seal population. Walk along the cliff path from here to Cwm Silio and up the valley to the old church.
